Release of 60,000 fish fry into the Koggala lagoon has taken place on the 26th of February at the Kathaluwa Gurukanda landing site with the objective of increasing the fish harvest of the fishermen employed in the fishing industry
The following points were discussed at a discussion held on (28) at the auditorium of Ministry of Fisheries between the Secretaries of the Provincial Ministries of fisheries and the Heads of the Institutions of the Ministry of Fisheries which governs by the Central Government under the patronage of the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Ramalingam Chandrasekar, and Deputy Minister Rathna Gamage.
During the 2025 Budget speech in Parliament, Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic, and Ocean Resources Rathna Gamage emphasized the unprecedented allocation for the fisheries sector, marking a significant commitment to boosting the country’s production economy.
