Due to the prevailing tense global situation, a special media briefing was held under the patronage of the Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean  Resources, Mr. Ramalingam Chandrasekhar, to ensure the safety and security of Sri Lankan fishermen operating in international waters.

Addressing the briefing, the Minister stressed that fishermen who have already departed to sea should strictly avoid using illegal routes or entering unfamiliar maritime areas under any circumstances. He noted that this advisory has been issued with the primary objective of safeguarding the lives and well-being of the fishing community. The Minister strongly urged all fishermen to continue navigating only through their usual and officially approved routes.

He further requested that in the event of any dangerous situation or emergency at sea, fishermen and boat owners should immediately contact the MRCC Center or 24-hour radio communication network of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

Puttalam District Parliamentarian Ajith Gihan also participated in this special media briefing.
