On the occasion of the sacred Milad-un-Nabi Day, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Mr. Ramalingam Chandrasekaran, extends his heartfelt greetings to all Muslim people in Sri Lanka.

The Minister’s message of greetings further states:

The sacred day commemorating the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who preached the noble virtues of love, compassion, equality, brotherhood, justice, tolerance and peace to humanity, is an important occasion to reflect once again on his life and teachings.

Throughout his lifetime, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) emphasized the need for everyone to live with dignity and equality, setting aside the differences that exist among people. He also focused on the welfare of the poor, the helpless, orphans and marginalized members of society, while emphasizing virtues such as helping others and acting with social responsibility.

“Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and transgression.” — The Holy Qur’an 16:90

This divine verse clearly demonstrates the importance of justice, goodness and social responsibility in human life. These noble qualities have the potential not only to guide individual lives towards the right path, but also to guide society as a whole.

In our Sri Lanka, where people of different ethnicities, religions and languages live together, mutual understanding, religious harmony and brotherhood are very important foundations for our future. The message of humanity and social justice found in the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) will serve as a strong guide towards building such a united society.

In today’s society, we all have a responsibility to act with love, peace and understanding, without allowing hatred, divisions and misunderstandings to take root. In particular, it will greatly contribute to the progress of the country if young people and future generations cultivate qualities such as good character, tolerance, social responsibility and humanity in their lives.

Milad-un-Nabi Day should not merely be a day to celebrate a religious occasion, but also a day on which we resolve to put into practice the noble qualities of love, compassion, justice, equality and brotherhood in our daily lives.

On this sacred day, I pray to God that the homes of all Muslim people in Sri Lanka may be filled with peace, happiness, good health, prosperity and harmony, and that all their good endeavours may be successful.
