State Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Piyal Nishantha Silva says prices of fishing gear which increased by several fold recently will come down by some degree in the next few months.
A special discussion on the damage caused to the fishery industry in Sri Lanka due to illegal fishing activities and the measures that should be taken to stop it was held in Kachchathiv Island on 06.03.2023 under the chairmanship of the Minister of Fisheries Mr. Douglas Devananda with the participation of the representatives of the Northern Fishermen's Associations and the representatives of the Indian Fishermen's Associations.
Fisheries Minister Mr. Douglas Devananda instructed the officials to take necessary measures to completely stop the illegal fishing activities such as those using light courses, cache nets etc. carried out by fishermen using the ocean in this country.
