A delegation led by Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources Ramalingam Chandrasekhar, who is participating in the ‘One Ocean Week’ international conference being held in Bergen, Norway, held a special discussion yesterday (21) with the top management, including the Managing Director of Cargill, a world-leading aquaculture and fish feed company, Tarjei Eide.
With a proud history of 160 years, Cargill is the world’s largest salmon and shrimp feed company, employing over one hundred and fifty-five thousand (155,000) employees in 70 countries.
During this meeting, matters were discussed at length regarding the business opportunities for obtaining high-quality fish feed and providing the necessary raw materials for the development of the aquaculture sector in Sri Lanka. The Minister also explained the technical assistance and new investment opportunities required to promote the aquaculture sector in Sri Lanka in particular.
The Cargill management willingly accepted the invitation made by Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekhar to undertake an official visit to Sri Lanka to directly study the existing business model and investment potential in Sri Lanka, and accordingly, they are scheduled to undertake an observation tour of the country in the future.
The Secretary to the Ministry, Dr. B.K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa and the Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Mr. S.J. Kahawatte also participated in this event.
