DSC1239 copy.jpgThe Sinhala and Tamil New Year offers a meaningful opportunity to highlight our rich cultural heritage and strengthen the spirit of national unity.

I believe that this transitional period will truly bring fresh hope to our fishing community, whose tireless efforts in the blue waters play a vital role in sustaining the national economy and ensuring food security.

The past year has been exceptionally difficult for all of us. In particular, the fuel crisis, coupled with natural disasters such as Cyclone ‘Ditwa’ and ongoing global political instability, dealt a heavy blow to the fishing industry. However, I greatly appreciate the unwavering courage and dedication shown by our fishing community despite those difficulties.

The current government has always stood by its commitment to giving real value to the lives of the people. The special relief package introduced under the guidance of His Excellency the President, covering all sectors, including 'Aswesuma' and the special fuel allowance provided exclusively for the fishing community, clearly confirms the humanitarian and responsible nature of our administration. Our aim is to protect the entire sector, from divers to multi-day boat owners.

I consider it my and our government's primary responsibility to strengthen your hands in the journey towards the noble goal of "A Rich Country - A Beautiful Life". Going beyond the traditional New Year celebrations, we will join hands as one nation and strengthen the country's productive economy in this New Year with renewed vigor.

I sincerely wish that this upcoming Sinhala and Tamil New Year will be a victorious year filled with good health, peace and prosperity for all your families and the entire countrymen!

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
