As per the instructions of the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, a ceremony to provide financial assistance cheques to aquaculturist  in the Batticaloa District who were affected by Cyclone Ditwah, organized by the National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA), was held yesterday (24.08.2026) at the Batticaloa Old District Secretariat Auditorium.

The ceremony was held under the patronage of Batticaloa District Secretary Mr. J. S. Arulraj, while Batticaloa District Member of Parliament Mr. Kandhasamy Prabhu participated in the event and presented the cheques to the beneficiaries.

At the event, financial assistance cheques amounting to approximately Rs. 14.25 million were presented to 31 beneficiaries affected by Cyclone Ditwah, while cheques worth Rs. 1.75 million were presented to 5 associations engaged in fish fingerling breeding activities in tanks.

District Coordinator of the Ministry of Fisheries S. M. A. Nazar, District Aquaculture Extension Officer J. Nelson, and several officials of the National Aquaculture Development Authority were also present at the occasion.
