Under the patronage of Fisheries Minister Mr. Douglas Devananda, CM Blue Crabs Private Limited, a seafood production and export company, opened a crab packing factory in the Mannar region on January 16, 2024.

Through this factory, the processed and packaged crabs that are purchased from local fishermen are sent to the main factory.

This company has started a canned fish factory, an ice plant and a fish meal production plant in Pesalai, Mannar district, and it has also started the first fish oil factory in Sri Lanka and is running it very successfully.

This company has been able to provide employment opportunities to approximately eight hundred to thousand people. This company which operates 22 branches across the island, has also provided employment opportunities to 200 women-headed families in Mannar district.CM Blue Crabs, which has been engaged in seafood production for the last 5 years, is also significant in generating a large amount of foreign exchange through processing and exporting seafood to countries like America.

The Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda, addressed the gathering and stated that these kinds of establishments are very important to Sri Lanka at this time and that more should be created to attract foreign investment. He also extended an invitation to the country's business community to launch similar ventures.
