Strengthening Sri Lanka's national initiative to digitalize its fisheries sector and enhance maritime safety, the International Organization for Migration (IOM), supported by Australia, has donated 50 tabs to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources.

During his official visit to Sri Lanka, Mr. Iori Kato, IOM's Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific, officially handed over this donation to Dr. B. K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic, and Ocean Resources. Mr. Kato's visit aimed to observe IOM's programs in Sri Lanka and foster stronger future collaborations.

During his visit, Mr. Kato toured the Beruwala Fisheries Harbor before proceeding to the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources' Fisheries Monitoring Centre (FMC). He gained insights into the FMC's operational model and its crucial role as a coordinating hub supporting maritime safety, security, and sustainable fisheries management. Discussions also focused on strategic opportunities to strengthen the enduring partnership between IOM and DFAR for sustainable and broad cooperation. The operational Vessel Monitoring System (VMS) was also observed during this visit.
