Under the Clean Sri Lanka Initiative, the event "A Beautiful Beach, an Attractive Tourist Destination" was successfully conducted on February 9, 2025, in Galle, Unawatuna, and Peellegoda, focusing on beach cleanup efforts to enhance the coastal environment and boost tourism.
The event was held under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Rathna Gamage, with the participation of local stakeholders and officials.
Speaking at the event in Galle, Deputy Minister Rathna Gamage emphasized the government’s commitment to expanding access to fresh seafood through a national distribution program. He highlighted a significant decision taken during a recent Ministerial Consultative Committee meeting, attended by Minister of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, along with Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security, and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe. During these discussions, a consensus was reached to establish CeyFish stalls in all SATHOSA outlets across the country.
Furthermore, the Minister announced that in addition to SATHOSA stores, CeyFish stalls will be expanded into cooperative department-run CO-OP CITY establishments, ensuring wider availability of high-quality seafood for consumers.
"In line with this initiative, we anticipate establishing nearly 1,000 CeyFish stalls across the country by the end of this year, making fresh seafood more accessible to the public. This initiative is a major step forward in strengthening Sri Lanka’s fisheries sector," stated Deputy Minister Rathna Gamage.
