Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda provided 15 shops suitable for Fish Stalls built on the ground floor of the newly built Chilaw Fisheries Harbour, to the Fishermen’s Associations in Chilaw City, on 17-11-2023 at the Ministry of Fisheries.
Mr. H.E MIZUKOSHI Hideaki, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, met Mr. Douglas Devananda, Minister of Fisheries on 06.11.2023. At the request of His Excellency the President, the discussion was held about Rs.435 million which has been decided to be given by the Japanese government in order to develop fisheries sector in Sri Lanka.
The International Fisheries Day, which falls on November 21, each year, is held very successfully by the Ministry of Fisheries every year with the participation of the Sri Lankan community. The theme of the Fisheries day for this year is “Highlighting the critical importance of healthy ecosystems & to ensure sustainable fish stocks in the world".
