A Shore-Based Hub for Addressing Issues at Sea. Prior to Launch a 'Vessel of Solutions'!
A preliminary meeting to organize the special ‘Mobile Service’ for the Galle District was held today (01) at the Ministry premises, under the patronage of the Hon. Ratna Gamage, Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources.
The objective of this major mobile service is to provide a centralized hub for resolving the administrative and service-related issues faced by the resilient fisherfolk—who earn significant foreign exchange for the country while fighting the rough waves of the open sea.
Extensive discussions were held regarding the efficient and systematic provision of essential services to the fishing community and local residents—such as boat registration, inspection of communication equipment, and access to bank loans and insurance facilities—through this mobile service, which is scheduled to take place in the second week of October with the participation of over 50 state and private sector institutions.
Stay tuned to our official Facebook page for further details regarding this major mobile service, which brings essential facilities directly to the village, thereby saving the valuable time and labor of the fishing community in the Galle District.
This is just the beginning!
This relief operation, launched in Galle, marks only the start; the Ministry plans to continue this mobile service, extending it to other fisheries districts across the island in the future.
The preliminary discussion was attended by the Secretary to the Ministry ,Dr. B. K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa; Director General of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Mr. Susantha Kahawatta; Chairman of Cey-Nor, Mr. Wasantha Mannapperuma; and Chairman of the Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation, Mr. Kapila Bamunuarachchi.
