Mr. H.E MIZUKOSHI Hideaki, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka, met Mr. Douglas Devananda, Minister of Fisheries on 06.11.2023. At the request of His Excellency the President, the discussion was held about Rs.435 million which has been decided to be given by the Japanese government in order to develop fisheries sector in Sri Lanka.
The International Fisheries Day, which falls on November 21, each year, is held very successfully by the Ministry of Fisheries every year with the participation of the Sri Lankan community. The theme of the Fisheries day for this year is “Highlighting the critical importance of healthy ecosystems & to ensure sustainable fish stocks in the world".

Minister of Fisheries, Douglas Devananda said that Sri Lanka's ornamental fish industry is a valuable industry that brings foreign exchange to the country and no matter how deep the economic crisis the country is facing, he will take steps to draw the attention of the President and support it in a big way in the future. He said this while opening the largest-ever ornamental fish exhibition and market in Sri Lanka held at Taprobane Hall in Borella on 07.10.2023.
