UntitledMr. Douglas Devananda, Minister of Fisheries, visited Peliyagoda Fish Market Complex on 10.09.2023 in order to inspect the development activities that are expected to be carried out within the premises of the said fish market.

During this tour of inspection, the development works to be carried out in the wastewater purification plant, which has been completed at present, was investigated and the minister inquired about the complaints received about the damages caused to the surrounding environment by the wastewater coming out of the shopping complex from the officials and representatives of the fishermen's associations. He instructed the relevant officials to look into it. Also, the Secretary of the Peliyagoda Pradeshiya Sabha was instructed to take necessary steps to sterilize the dogs in order to stop the rampant breeding of dogs in the trade area.

Furthermore, the minister discussed many issues that have arisen in the supply of ice to Peliyagoda traders and advised the officials including the secretary of the ministry to take necessary measures regarding the problems presented by the representatives of the trade associations.

The Minister instructed the regional secretary to take legal actions against the traders and the relevant authorities by having the public health inspectors conducted proper daily checks on the disinfection of the fish market complex and the sale of spoiled fish to the public and also instructed to take legal action against the traders and individuals who commit such mistakes.

A group of officials including Mrs. Indu Ratnayake, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, Secretary of Peliyagoda Pradeshiya Sabha, Regional Secretary and a group of representatives from the Fish Market Complex participated in this event.
