A 25-acre shrimp farm set up by “Ceylon Sea Food Farm” Pvt Ltd. at an investment of 1000 million rupees in Kilinochchi District was declared open on 14-07-2024 by the Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda.

This shrimp farm has been established in Minari Odai village in Kawdarimunai Grama Niladari (KN-68) Division in Kilinochchi District and a lot of people in this are employed here.

Minister Douglas Devananda stated that shrimp farming and Freshwater fish culture have become the major way of bringing foreign income to the country. He also stated that the Ministry of Fisheries provides a lot of support for such farming and the investors of this country have to obtain such assistance and set up such farms. The Minister pointed out that through the production of shrimp, which is a popular food among tourists, the local investors could increase their income, at this time especially when the tourism industry is developing. The Minister added that shrimp farming is very important to bring foreign exchange into the country and to fulfill the nutrition requirements of the people.

A large number of people including the top officials of NAQDA institute in the Northern Province attended this event.
