Deputy Minister Ratna Gamage inspects construction work at the Valaichchenai Fishery Harbour...

Deputy Minister Ratna Gamage undertook an inspection tour today (29) to review the progress of the Valaichchenai Fishery Harbour development project, which is being carried out with an allocation of Rs. 1,134 million from the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources.

During the visit, particular attention was paid to the progress of the harbour jetty access road, the construction of the protective embankment, and concurrent renovation activities. The Deputy Minister also met with the local fishing community present at the harbour premises for a cordial discussion; he inquired about the challenges they face in the fishing industry and instructed the relevant officials on the necessary steps to resolve these issues promptly. The Chairman of the Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation, the Director General (Engineering) of the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, the Manager of the Valaichchenai Fishery Harbour, other officials, and representatives of local fishing communities participated in this event.

This initiative marks another successful step in the Ministry’s program to uplift the local fishing industry and improve the living standards of the fishing community.
