Limited Operations Commence at Gandara Fishery Harbour
Under the guidance of the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, and with financial allocations made to address the harbour’s specific needs, new construction work has been completed in order to provide the essential facilities required for the fishing community to carry out their daily activities.
As one phase of this initiative, the newly constructed main administrative building and other facilities were opened yesterday (25) for limited operations.
This project provides the necessary facilities for the Coast Guard, the Department of Fisheries, and the Sri Lanka Police to conduct and oversee their respective operations. Arrangements are also being made to provide the necessary space and facilities for Sri Lanka Customs to conduct its operations there in the future.
In addition, various essential facilities have been provided—prioritizing the needs of the fishing community—including a filling station for diesel and kerosene, a landing site for small-scale fishing boats, a fish auction hall, an auditorium, and facilities for drinking water and vehicle parking.
These development activities were carried out with the aim of enhancing the harbor’s infrastructure and facilitating the daily fishing operations of the community.
Officials and staff of the Ceylon Fishery Harbours Corporation and the members of the fishing community participated in the inauguration event.
