This quality control section was declared open on 26-01-2024 at Katunayake Airport premises, in order to fulfill the strong request of the exporters of  Local fish products.

Participating at the opening ceremony Minister of Fisheries Devananda stated that Sri Lanka receives a huge amount of Dollar income from the export of local fisheries products. The Minister also said that as per the instruction of the President, he has instructed the Department of Fisheries to take measures to open this new office with the objective to get rid of the obstacles and other difficulties when obtaining quality control certificates by the exporters of local fisheries products. The Minister stated that he is very happy about the proper implementation of this task and this office is kept open for 24 hours and the exporters could obtain the services round the clock.

The Minister thanked the Department of Imports and Exports and the Sri Lankan Airlines for their cooperation.

State Minister Piyal Nishantha, Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries Miss. Nayana Kumari Somarathne and the Director General of Fisheries Department Mr. Susantha Kahawaththa attended this event.
