Under the auspices of the Fisheries Minister, Mr. Douglas Devananda, 150,000 fish fry were released as the first phase on November 19, 2023, and 50,000 fish fry as the second phase on November 4, 2023, in the national festival of releasing fish fry, as part of the program to release two hundred thousand fish fry in the fresh water ponds in the Puthumurippu area in Kilinochchi Karachchi Divisional Secretariat.

On this occasion, the Minister inquired about the operation and progress of the Puthumurippu Freshwater Fish Hatchery and gave instructions to the officials about the steps to be taken in the future for its development.

The officials of the National Aquaculture Development Authority, the director of the Northern Provincial Office of the National Aquaculture Development Authority, engineers and a group of fishermen participated in this event.
