Mr. Kang, a leading businessman from South Korea, met the Minister of Fisheries, Douglas Devananda, at the Ministry of Fisheries on 29.08.2023 and discussed about arrangements over investment in Sri Lanka to start a fish food and fish-related food manufacturing factory and a boat manufacturing factory.
In this discussion, Mr. Kang stated that the Minister was requested to provide the necessary support to start these factories in the vicinity of Oluwil Harbour in the Eastern Province.
The Minister in his comments said that a program has already been initiated to develop the Oluwil Harbour and accordingly, instructions were given to take necessary steps to start these factories along with other developments in the Harbour. The Minister further said that these factories should be established under the Sri Lanka Board of Investment ( BOI) and necessary arrangements will be made in consultation with the Ministry of Commerce.
Mr. Kang said in his comments that he is highly interested in investing in Sri Lanka and he is ready to invest billions in Sri Lanka if he gets the necessary support from the Minister of Fisheries and the Ministry of Fisheries.
Indu Ratnayake, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, a delegation from Mr. Kang's factory in Korea and his coordination officer Sri Lanka were also present on this occasion.
