A huge amount of foreign currency is earned from fish exports and it is the duty and responsibility of all exporters to have that money duly channelled to the country at a time when the country is facing a huge crisis, Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda said at a discussion with the fish exporters at the Ministry of Fisheries on 20.03.2023.

In further comments the Minister said that he would consider the request made by the exporters to import fish and reexport them at times when fish is scarce for the steady continuation of their business and a decision in this regard will be taken after discussions with the multiday boat owners in our country. The Minister also requested the exporters to look into the possibility of extending support for installation of technical devices in multiday boats for the post-harvest preservation and submit a report to him in this regard. The Minister noted that solutions to the problems they are facing will be sought in consultation with the President.
