DSC 0076Mr. Douglas Devananda stated that the relevant lands for aquaculture projects in the country should be identified scientifically to avoid unnecessary delays in the implementation of those projects and efforts should
be made to promote aquatic aquaculture among the people.

The Minister expressed these views in a visit made to National Aquaculture Development Authority (NAQDA) in Battaramulla. The purpose of this visit was to examine about the aquatic projects which were scheduled to be carried out in the country last year and in the coming months of this year and their progress. Current issues affecting the projects implemented by way of importation were also looked into.

The minister who looked into the progress of the aquatic projects currently being implemented in Batticaloa area said that the related projects should be implemented considering the opinions of the people’s representatives of the the area. The Minister also said that the production should be increased by maintaining the uninterrupted operation of the breeding centers established in Bangadeniya, Kilinochchi, Vagaturippu, and Mannar areas.

Present at this occasion were a group of officials from Aquaculture Development Authority including the Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries.
