The operations of Oluwil Harbour, which has been transformed into a Fishery Harbour, are presently conducted very successfully and signing of the agreement for the construction of a factory took place at the Ministry of Fisheries on 02/07/2023 after discussions held on several occasions between Tess Private Company and the Minister of Fisheries Mr. Douglas Devananda to start a canned tin fish factory using the surplus fish stocks landed at the Harbour.
The minister stated that attention has been focused on the production of canned tin fish required for the people of the country and that there is a possibility to export the surplus of canned tin fish produced here to foreign countries after the construction of this factory.
This agreement was signed by the Secretary of the Ministry, Ms. Indu Ratnayake on behalf of the Ministry, Chairman of TACE Private Company, Mr. Shiran Fernando on behalf of the Company.
A group of officials including Mr. Namal Thalangama, Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and a group of officials from Tess Private Company were present on this occasion.
