Minister of Fisheries, Douglas Devananda says that it is unfortunate that the people of Tamil Nadu do not understand that the Tamil fishermen living in the Northern Province of Sri Lanka are suffering because of the illegal acts of Indian fishermen.

The Minister expressed these views in a meeting held on 21.03.2023 at the Ministry of Fisheries with Mr. Vinoth Jacob, Ambassador of India in Sri Lanka. The Minister in further comments on this said that the wrong opinion presented by the Indian side regarding the legal measures launched by the Sri Lanka Navy with the aim of protecting the marine resources of Sri Lanka and the livelihood of the fishing community in the Northern Province leads to diplomatic problems between the two countries.

Here, the Minister held this discussion as another round of the diplomatic talks launched regarding the suppression of the illegal activities of Indian fishermen and the steps to be taken by the two countries regarding the issues of Indian fishermen were discussed at length on this occasion.
