Mr. Douglas Devananda inspected the seawater drinking water project for Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts being constructed at Thalayadi village in Vadamarachchi and gave instructions to the relevant officials to speed up the project.

The Minister who inspected the construction works of this project funded by the Asian Development Bank and constructed by the Swiss organization of France on 19.03.2023 and discussed with the officials of the France at the construction site. This project, which is being constructed at a cost of rupees 14500 million, produces about 24000000 liters of drinking water per day (two million forty lakhs) and the water will be distributed to the villages of Jaffna and Kilinochchi districts. This project is expected to be completed by the end of this year and water will be distributed to villages up to Meesale in the first phase.

Meanwhile, it is expected to produce 5000 kg of ice cubes per day through the ice factory constructed at a cost of 5,800,000 rupees (fifty-eight lakhs) which will be handed over to the Fishermen's Federation of Vadamarachchi East Region in Thalaiadi area and Mr. Devananda has arranged to install the solar power systems needed to produce electricity for this factory in the area around Thalaiadi.
