A special discussion was held at the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and  Ocean   Resources on further enhancing the  “Fish abundance forecast service ‘currently provided by NARA for multi-day fishing vessels, with the aim of improving both the efficiency of the service and the accuracy of its data.

A high-level delegation from the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) met with Dr. B. K. Kolitha Kamal Jinadasa, Secretary to the Ministry of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, to discuss strengthening technical cooperation between the two countries in the fisheries sector.

The main points of focus were:

✅ Providing fishermen with fishing area forecast data more accurately and in a timely manner.

✅ Sharing modern technical knowledge and best practices.

✅ Implementing specialized technical training programs for local officials.

This new technological advancement will enable multi-day fishermen to accurately identify fishing zones, which will greatly help them save fuel costs and time, harvest higher yields, and minimize post-harvest losses.
