According to the severe wind weather warning issued today (06.08.2026) by the Department of Meteorology, the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources hereby issues this special notice to the entire fishing community.

According to the relevant notice, the sea areas from Matara through Hambantota to Pottuvil are currently unsuitable for nearshore fishing activities due to the prevailing conditions. Therefore, all fishermen are strongly advised to refrain from setting out for fishing activities in those areas until further notice.

Furthermore, fishing vessels departing from other areas where no hazardous conditions have been reported are also specifically advised to refrain from entering the designated hazardous sea zone from Matara to Pottuvil or engaging in fishing activities there.

The Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources kindly requests the entire fishing community to remain constantly attentive to the weather advisories that will be issued in the future regarding the prevailing weather conditions, and to act responsibly while strictly adhering to safety instructions.
