For the first in Sri Lanka, SLIC, a local canned fish company with SLS certification produced and issued its latest product, a pack of sustainable Jack Mackerel fish to the market. The launching of this product was held on 2024-06-21, at the Ministry of Fisheries.
Dr. Kapila Balasuriya, the Managing Director of this Company, presented the first packet of processed fish containing a kilogram of fish to Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda. This product is mostly needed for the manufacturers of Bakery products. Dr.Kapila Balasuriya, the Managing Director of SLIC says that these products have been made in a sustainable manner suitable for bakery products.
Expressing views at this event Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda stated that the current policy of the government is to develop such local production and the government will provide them with the support they need, and he also wished that the production activities of SLIC would grow further.
The Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries Mr. Nishantha Mohan Wickremasinghe and a group of higher officials attended this event.
