1623073395 Court orders Navy to provide security to sinking X Press Pearl B

Minister of Fisheries, Mr. Douglas Devananda says that giving compensation for the fourth round to the fishermen who were unable to go fishing due to the Express Pearl ship disaster has already been planned from next 10.04.2023.

The minister said that an amount of 1514.9 million rupees has been received from the insurance company of the Express Pearl Ship to the Treasury and the money has been sent to the district secretaries of Gampaha, Colombo and Kalutara districts through the Ministry of Fisheries. The District Secretaries have been instructed to arrange giving compensation to 16867 fishermen who lost their livelihoods from 10.04.2023.

Minister of Fisheries who said that so far, an amount of 1477 million rupees has been received from the relevant insurance company and in giving compensation for the fourth round, compensation will also be given to fisher families who are engaged in fish-related products also said that an amount of compensation between 33000 rupees minimum 50,000 rupees has been given adding that in the future also the necessary arrangements will be made to provide compensation to the fishermen through the Ministry of Fisheries.
