A special delegation representing the city of Shenzhen, China, held discussions with the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources, Hon. Rathna Gamage, on 02nd of  December to discuss on cooperation in improving fisheries export sector of Sri Lanka. The delegation, which came with Tropic Frozen, a leading export company in the country, expressed keen interest in developing value-added fish export products for high-demand markets such as the United States.

During the meeting, the Chinese representatives expressed their condolences over the recent flood disaster in Sri Lanka and pledged their full support for the reconstruction efforts of the country. Specially, they expressed their willingness to work closely together by introducing advanced value-added technologies to enhance the fisheries export industry.

Deputy Minister Rathna Gamage warmly welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance of such a partnership.

“We are very pleased with this proposal presented by the Shenzhen delegation. Modern technology is essential to take our fisheries export industry to the next level, especially in key areas such as fish farming, aquaculture and value addition,” the Deputy Minister said. “We greatly appreciate their commitment to providing the necessary technical knowledge to improve our export products. This will enable us to earn higher foreign exchange. This cooperation is a very important step in the journey to strengthen our manufacturing economy.”

The discussion between the two parties concluded very amicably and a solid foundation was established for future cooperation in the fisheries sector. Both sides agreed to work closely in the future on the proposed initiatives.
