On this auspicious occasion of the birth day of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all the Muslim devotees in Sri Lanka.
The teachings of the Prophet, such as the noble qualities of peace, brotherhood and kindness, are an essential foundation for our unity and coexistence as a multi-cultural society.
Among these noble teachings, the profound philosophy of considering nature and its resources as a sacred trust entrusted to man by God holds a special place. It is the noble responsibility of all of us to preserve that natural gift and bequeath it to future generations.
As the Deputy Minister of Fisheries, the guidance provided to our field by this noble teaching is very important. Our marine resources are such a valuable heritage that we have been blessed with. Managing it sustainably will not only secure our livelihoods, but it is our duty on behalf of nature.
On this auspicious day, I recollect the hard work of our fishing community with respect and propose to get united to fulfill this environmental stewardship entrusted to us.
May everyone have a peaceful and prosperous Milad-un-Nabi!
