Wellamankara fishery harbour in Mannar was developed as a fully fledged fishery harbour under a cost of Rs. 1000 millions
Although the life style of the fisher community in North and East provinces have returned to normalcy with the end of the terrorism, no infrastructure was developed for the fishers dwelling from Puttalam to Jaffna which is essential in restarting their livelihoods. Taking into consideration this issue, the fishing village of Wellamankara in Mannar has already been targeted for development as a fully fledged fishery harbour.

The proposed land for the fishery harbour is 06 hectares and the estimated cost is Rs. 1000 Million. It will provide facilities to accommodate about 500 Multi day fishing vessels and 350 small fishing crafts and it will also be equipped with a community Hall, Fuel storage centre, cold room, office facilities and water and  Electricity facilities.

The project is planned to be completed by the middle of next year, having a feasibility report created taking practical knowledge and suggestions of the fishers in to consideration.
